The Dacha: An Allegory to Care
This essay explores the importance of modern concepts of care, critically examines a range of writings, and uses my grandfather’s dacha as a case study. Marcel Mauss' "The Gift" sheds light on the primitive ideas of care related to Anatoly’s practices.
Dachas are Eastern European summerhouses that were gifted to citizens by the state for growing food near cities. These neighbourhoods have contemporary significance because they encourage a particular attitude to our natural environment that leads to a more-than-human mentality.
